To Explore Campus Spirit — A Research on the Campus Renewal Design of Chengdu Xindu No. 2 Middle School

Abstract:

The campus should be a spiritual place, which is full of cultural significance. Adhered to the search of campus spirit, used for reference of the valuable experience on the school reconstructions after 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake, this paper studies certain main points in the campus renewal design process of Xindu No.2 middle School. Through literature research, questionnaires, surveys, local observe, visit research, the historical evolution and the space form related information have been grasped. The campus problems to be solved by renewal design have been found through the present situation analysis. Based on the overall construction of the campus environment, the school has to renew the integrity design systems, sets up and follows the three design strategies, namely, "spatial distribution reflects the concept of sustainable development", "morphological mutant to continue the traditional & historical context," "detailed designs to highlight the geographical and cultural characteristics", to ensure the creation of the great campus spirit.
