Thermodynamic Analysis on the Precipitation of Crystalline Phase from LF Slag during Cooling Process

Article Preview

Abstract:

The precipitation of crystalline phase from LF slag during cooling process was discussed according to the thermodynamic analysis by using CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 system. The results showed that when the slag basicity was low, 2CaO•SiO2 (C2S) was precipitated firstly during the cooling process, and then it was followed by 2CaO•Al2O3•SiO2 (C2AS) and 12CaO•7Al2O3 (C12A7), and the precipitated crystalline phases existed uniformly in the slag. In the case of high basicity slag, 3CaO•SiO2 (C3S) and 3CaO•Al2O3 (C3A) with incongruent melting point temperature could be produced, and which would result in a non-uniform distribution in the slag.
