Improvement and Function Characteristics of SiCCVD/Al Composite Electric Heating Actuators

Article Preview

Abstract:

The relationships between curvature, electric resistance, electric power and temperature of the 1-side and 2-side electric heating actuators of SiCCVD/Al composite were investigated when these actuators were working repeatedly. It was found that the curvature during the heating process was smaller than that during the cooling process for these actuators. To reduce and stabilize the electric resistance of the actuators during repeating work, the ends of the exposed SiCCVD fibers were polished and then sputtered with gold. The results showed that the process of polishing and sputtering with gold on the ends of fibers (PPSG) was benefit to reduce and stabilize the electric resistance of the 1-side actuator. A good reproducibility of the relationship between temperature and curvature for both the 1-side and the 2-side actuators during the cycles of heating and cooling processes was confirmed.
