Research on the Flexural Behavior of BFRP Concrete Beams

Abstract:

In order to prolong the useful time of the building structure, as well as increase the ability of resisting kinds of architectural diseases, BFRP is used to replace steel, and finished the research tests of BFRP reinforced concrete simply supported beams with different reinforcement ratios. According to the test results and theoretical analysis, we put forward: The BFRP bar is one kind of brittle material without obvious yielding point, but the BFRP reinforcement concrete beam has bigger deformation before the beam collapses. The deflection produced can be approximately viewed as two straight lines which bound the cracking point. As the elasticity modulus of the BFRP is low, the longitudinal tension is mainly borne by the BFRP bar in the last loading stage, the strain of the BFRP becomes large, large deformation will occur on the beam specimen before the damage occurred, so such reinforced concrete has obvious omen and good ductility. As is assumed that the bond strength between the BFRP bar and concrete is enough, the two kinds of materials can work together better, and thus the bearing capacity of the beam specimen can be greatly improved. But as the bonding performance in the test can not be that ideal, the strength advantage of the BFRP can not be embodied. The stripping between the BFRP rebar and concrete is the biggest obstacle which restricts its application, it is necessary to improve the process to produce a better non-stripping BFRP bars. On the same loads, the deflection of the beam specimens are all large, it is mainly due to the fact that the elastic modulus of the BFRP tendons is small, its tensile strength is high, but not fully utilized, so the emphasis should be put on the use of prestressing bars when designed. The design and application recommendations given by the results are of important theoretical and engineering significance to improve the fiber composite concrete structure design theory.
