Abstract: The paper rests on the basic principle of the double difference method, through using Kennett and Engdahl(1991)’s IASPEI Earth model which can be used in computation theoretical travel time in the condition of regional and telseismic earthquake .We have developed a double difference program which can be used in the regional and teleseismic earthquake. And utilizes this program to relocate the Jiashi Ms 6.8 earthquake sequence in Xinjiang province on 24/2/2,003, obtained a quite good result.

Abstract: The course of the degradation of pollutants in terms of chemical oxygen demand (COD), soluble COD (SCOD), phenols, and anionic surfactants was examined both aerobically and anaerobically in sewer-like conditions. The rates of COD and SCOD degradation under aerobic condition were 0.051 and 0.052 mg/L/h, respectively. COD concentration remained unchanged during anaerobic process. However, SCOD was observed to increase with a production rate of 0.010 mg/L/h. The concentration of phenols was observed to decrease at a rate of 0.0211/h remained constant during the anaerobic process. The same profile was observed in the concentration of anionic surfactants, wherein the rate of degradation was 0.0454/h aerobically, and the concentration profile remained constant.

Abstract: Although useful in flood prevention and as the source of water for irrigation and consumption, reservoirs could nevertheless not merely create negative social impacts for those living near them but also wreak havoc on the environment following their construction. These environmental and social impacts should be addressed especially in the Northeastern part of Thailand where their history revolving in salt mines and traditional salt production. The attitude questionnaires were used in this study to assess the impacts of a reservoir operation in a saline soil area on the social changes in 8 aspects. It was found, based on more than 160 replied questionnaires, that even if most respondents saw that the reservoir improved their standard of living in several aspects, a number of the respondents expressed concerns that their traditional way of life and ancient salt production method were disappearing. These people did express their concerns for their own safety, their worries about their community future, and hopes for better future of their own and that of their children.

Abstract: An M9.0 earthquake struck Japan on March 11, 2011 and the strong earthquake made continuous oscillation of the Earth. We first studied the Earth’s free oscillations using observations of VHZ channel of China Digital Seismic Network (CDSN). Since the frequency response of seismograph in CDSN suppresses the information of low frequency signal, we do not need to remove the solid tide in our data processing. We extracted 72 clear spherical modes of (0S0, 0S2 to 0S72) of the Earth’s free oscillation and 21 harmonic modes and they are consistent and nearly same with the frequencies of the modes of Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM). Spectral splitting phenomenon is observed obviously in 0S2, 0S3, 0S4 and 1S2 free oscillation modes.

Abstract: A new wavelet extension de-noising (WED) method is proposed in this paper. The basic principle is derived in detail. We have removed the high frequency noise in seismic data based on the suppressing detail components method, Fourier transform filtering method, WED method and reconstructing the 5th layer approximate coefficient method respectively, and the results show that the WED method can more effectively restrain noise than the other methods.

Abstract: An M8.8 earthquake struck Chile on February 27, 2010 and the strong earthquake made continuous oscillation of the Earth. We studied the Earth’s free oscillations using observations of VHZ channel of China Digital Seismic Network (CDSN). Since the frequency response of seismograph in CDSN suppresses the information of low frequency signal, we do not need to remove the solid tide in our data processing. We extracted 76 clear spherical modes of (0S0, 0S2 to 0S76) of the Earth’s free oscillation and 78 harmonic modes and they are consistent and nearly same with the frequencies of the modes of Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM). Spectral splitting phenomenon is observed obviously in 0S2, 0S3, 0S4 and 1S2 free oscillation modes.

Abstract: In these days, considering the growth of knowledge about environmental protection and green issues in manufacturing, green supplier selection would be the central component in the management of supply chain. This paper intends to apply data envelopment analysis for supplier selection considering environmental merits. The suppliers’ performances with respect to criteria are not pure numbers and considered in linguistic terms according to decision makers’ opinion. To handle the subjectivity of decision makers’ assessments, fuzzy logic has been applied. A case study is done to present the application of the method.

Abstract: In Malaysia, it is prevalent among many householders on accumulation of end-of-life electronics items at home and many are unclear of its disposal directive, which are likely to be disposed as household wastes. An insight into understanding their e-waste management practices and key predictors in relation to e-waste recycling intention are essential as they will lay the foundation for future effective e-waste management. This paper reports a preliminary exploration of the construct of e-waste recycling intention among householders. The data was collected from 150 respondents in Malacca, Malaysia. The results from this study showed that all the six dimensions generated are reliable with high intercorrelation among the dimensions. This implies that the measures can be used for further data collection to validate the study.

Abstract: Malaysia generates 0.8 kg waste per capita per day. Despite the recycling previous programmeslaunched, the national recycling rate was as low as 5%. Households’ involvement is expected to be the key factor to the success of recycling. Therefore, empirical study is needed to examineon the behavioural determinants of households’ recycling behaviour. The paper aims to extend the Theory of Planned Behaviour in predicting the households’ recycling behaviour. The paper will provide useful information and guidelines to the respective authorities in designingstrategies to encourage higher participation from households in the recycling programs.

Abstract: Appling amphibious urbanization is a new smart and sustainable flood mitigation strategy for floodplain area in South-East Asia. The objective of this study is to evaluate the technological and environmental aspects of the amphibious house as a sustainable flood mitigation strategy in South-East Asia. The technological and environmental aspects are investigated under sustainability. The point load test and drag force estimation and interviews are conducted. Amphibious urbanization is completely aligned with the technological aspects of a safe living conditions during flood rush. This system identified as one of the green and most sustainable new strategies in South-East Asia.
