Abstract: Conventional concrete hollow blocks have vertical single or multiple holes and they have been extensively used in masonry structures and as infill walls in reinforced concrete frame structures. However, most masonry walls using conventional concrete hollow blocks have the shortcoming of poor seismic resistance. A new type concrete hollow block with horizontal-holes has been developed and it could significantly improve the seismic resistance of a masonry wall as well as simplify the construction processes. The new hollow blocks are very easy to build a wall in a construction site and, in particular, they enable a convenient construction of reinforced concrete (RC) horizontal strips in their horizontal cavities and such RC strips can be readily connected to the adjacent RC columns. This provides an innovative seismic resistant measure to enhance the seismic resistance of masonry walls. In order to evaluate the seismic behavior of the new type masonry walls, an experimental investigation was carried out and seven full scale wall specimens were tested under in-plane cyclic loading. The experimental parameters include the number of horizontal RC strips, strength of the hollow blocks, height/width ratio of a wall and, with or without a window opening in the wall. In this paper, the details of the experimental investigation and the main test results are presented and, the characteristics of the seismic behavior of these wall specimens are discussed in relation to the influence of the experimental parameters.

Abstract: According to the design proposal of prefabricated bamboo composite wall components that with the functions of heat preservation, heat insulation, heat conduction and energy accumulation, a method to calculate the effective area of the component’s cross section is proposed in this paper. The prototype compressive tests of prefabricated bamboo composite wall components have been carried out using large scale test loading devices. The test results show that after adding the movement joint of the plywood outside the component, the compression strength has increased 39% due to circular bamboo, wood border and panel in the component have reached a common strength bearing state, therefore optimize the design proposal.

Abstract: The safety and efficency of operation of shiplock ralate closely to the filling and emptying system,so its related hydraulics will become the research focus of the current navigation hydraulics.According to requirement of the general layout codes and relevant design provisions of filling and emptying system, the hydraulic characteristics of the filling and emptying system with chamber wall’s long culvert and short side orifice outlet,is carried out by generalized numerical model and overall physical mode. The results showed that the hydraulic property of the structure can meet the requirements of the standard, and the research is also very important to ensure the safe operation, the reseach method can make reference for similar project.

Abstract: Prefabricated light-frame bamboo trusses are widely used in light-frame construction as the main vertical load-carrying elements in roof and floor systems because of their long-span capabilities, ease of use, versatile configuration, rapid installation, and competitive cost. This paper presents experimental studies on glue-laminated bamboo trusses. Six full-scale model trusses with two types of configuration and sizes were tested to failure under gradually increased vertical load. The failure of the model trusses was caused by lateral buckling of the top chords. Tests show that the modern glue-laminated bamboo trusses have adequate stiffness and strength.

Abstract: In order to reveal the the performance of full-length pre-stressed anchor bolts, and research the rock pressure behavior law, a combination method of FLAC3D and situ tests were presented, the conclusions were drawn as following: the prestress of full-length pre-stressed anchor bolt was approximately uniform distribution along the slow anchoring section of the rod, while in the fast anchoringthe segment showed a negative exponential or linear form of attenuation, and the bolt axial load was biggest in the neutral point; the neutral point of full-length pre-stressed anchor bolt move to deeper of the drill hole with the reduction of rock strength, while neutral point shifting deeper would accelerate the destruction of the anchorage zone in deep rock formations, deteriorating the anchoring effect. the methods of pre-grouting and grouting bolt (or cable)should be taken to improve the anchoring force.

Abstract: Based on the triple shear unified yield criterion, the mechanical behavior of the concrete-filled steel tube columns was analyzed. The calculation formulas of axial bearing capacity of the concrete-filled steel tube columns were deduced with considerations of the restriction effects of steel tube and the effects of the intermediate principal stressed. The results show that the intermediate principal stress effect parameter b has influences on the ultimate bearing capacity. With the increase of the intermediate principal stress effect parameter b, the ultimate bearing capacity of the concrete-filled steel tube columns increases too. The results show that formula deduced in the paper has good applicability and the solution has an important practical value.

Abstract: The diamond bird-beak XX-joint is a novel configuration for tubular structures and there are few correlated papers for it. Non-linear FE analyses are carried out on axially loaded XX-joints in order to study the mechanical properties of this type of joint. The individual influence of the following geometric parameters on the joint capacity, brace to chord width ratio β, chord width to wall thickness ratio 2γ, and brace to chord thickness ratio τ is made clear. Increasing either β or τ will increase the joint capacity and increasing 2γ will decreases joint capacity. The out-of-plane braces tension always decreases the ultimate capacity of joint and the equal tension and compression in the chord member have the same influence on the joint capacity. A reduction equation is proposed to consider the load effect of chord and out-of-plane braces axial forces.

Abstract: The stability of steel columns that have suffered localized damage is investigated through analytical and computational means. An analytical model based on the Rayleigh-Ritz technique is used in conjunction with detailed finite element models to study the effect of damage extent and location on column load carrying capacity. Analytical and simulation results show a severe reduction in column axial resistance in the presence of localized flange loss.

Abstract: The influence of vertical loads on steel reinforced concrete column is analyzed, based on the maximum lateral displacement of 2 different steel reinforced concrete columns under different vertical loads. The vertical loads, the section properties of the steel reinforced concrete column and horizontal loads are the influencing factors.
