Quasi-Isentropic Compression Characters of Flier-Plates with Graded Impedance

Article Preview

Abstract:

Two types of flier-plates with graded impedance, namely multi-ply and pillow, which had different variations of impedance’s distribution, were prepared in the present study. Wave profiles with a small initial jump followed by a slowly-rising front were generated by using both types of the flier-plates, indicating that quasi-isentropic loading had been realized. The characters of wave profiles generated by these two flier-plates were different from each other, which were in accord with their impedance distribution and microstructure. The pillow flier-plate created a more smoothly-rising front than that of multi-ply flier-plate, leading to better loading effect.
