Molten Salt Synthesis of Chlorapatite Whiskers

Article Preview

Abstract:

Chlorapatite whiskers were successfully prepared at 1250°C by the molten salt method. CaCl was the molten salt, CaCO3 and CaHPO4 were reactants, and then the ratio of molten salt to stoichiometric mixture was briefly studied. XRD and SEM were used to determine chemical products compound, and observe whiskers morphology. Results indicate that long and thin whiskers could be got, when the weight ratio of molten salt/ stoichiometric mixture is 1:1. Short and thick whiskers are corresponding to the ratio 1:2. Their compounds are both cholrapatite by XRD analysis. However when the ratio is 2:1, green transparent block not powder was got after sintering, which means molten salt is too much to become glass at the high temperature.
