Study on Ecological Design of Traditional Rural Dwellings in Southern Hunan, China

Abstract:

Low carbon emission is the most important thing to the architecture, thus the technology of construction which help to reduce carbon emission is very valuable. The paper focus on the thermal behavior of the traditional dwellings in southern Hunan,China. Field research was conducted between 2008 and 2012. Assessment on the ventilation, lighting and insulation design can help us aware of the thermal behavior of buildings in historical settlements. The results show that the ancient rural architectures can merge the environmental characteristics in interior and exterior design. The traditional dwellings are capable of working with the nature and reducing carbon emission.
