Design and Analysis of Cam Mechanisms with a Flat-Faced Follower by the Application of Support Function

Article Preview

Abstract:

By employing the concepts of support line and support function of the integral geometry, this paper presents an method for analyzing cam mechanisms with a flat-faced follower, including a translating follower, oscillating follower and planar motion follower. Then the condition that the whole segments of the cam profile are convex, and the coordinates of the cam profile are provided. Moreover, the formulas of the radius of curvature, perimeter and area of the cam mechanism are derived. Finally, an example is presented.
