Abstract:

A sol-gel method combined with spin-coating process has been developed for deposition of nanostructured thin films of La0.85Sr0.15MnO3 (LSM) on La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ(LSCF) pellets. The quality of the LSM films depends sensitively on the solution chemistry and other processing parameters. It was found that the optimal molar ratio of citric acid to ethylene glycol and to metal ions is 4:16:1 for the LSM sol. An amount of ethylene glycol was added into initial LSM sol to adjust the viscosity and the best value tested was 1.62×10-2 Pas. A more uniform LSM film can be obtained with a suitable heating rate during firing. Modification of LSCF with a thin film coating of LSM has potential to enhance both stability and electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction.
