Abstract:

The concept of minimalism in residential buildings accompanied mankind from the beginning of the existence of primary dwelling. The contribution analyses and summarizes historical theory of minimalism in housing and compares it with current architectural realizations, new trends, and experiments in the future in term of sustainability, economy, efficiency and savings. Financial economy and efficiency of construction is not resulting automatically from the minimalist concept of residential buildings. A residential building, which is minimalistic may not be sustainable, or energy efficient yet.
