The Application of FEM in Micro-Cutting and The Study of Key Technique

Article Preview

Abstract:

The application of finite element method (FEM) in conventional machining simulation has been carried on for a long time. But in micro-cutting, due to the unique mechanism of micro-cutting, such as size effect, round tool edge, minimum chip thickness and microstructure effect, there are still some bottleneck problems need to address. So this paper focuses on the current state-of-the-art surrounding the application of FEM in micro-cutting, and discusses some key techniques such as material model, chip separation, and chip-tool interaction in detail. Finally, future work of FEM simulation for the micro-cutting is recommended.
