The Study on Composition and Heat Treatment of the Fei-Color Jade
Abstract:
In this paper, the color-causing elements and mineral composition of the Fei-color Jade (During the epigenetic oxidation, the oxide mineral of iron filled and disseminated in the gravel fissures and mineral gap, then the jade will produce Fei -color,which includes yellow and red.)were analyzed by the X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques in order to carry out systematic study the Fei-color Jade. The results showed that the Fei color emerald color concentration was proportional to the iron content. Manganese was the main reason causing sepia tone in Fei -color jade. The color of yellow jade was caused by limonite and it would be showing red hue when the imonite partly transformed into hematite due to dehydration. Meanwhile, the upper limit temperature of the heat treated Fei–color jade was about 580 °C.
