Analysis of Functionally Graded Rectangular Plate by ANSYS

Abstract:

This study deals with analysis of a rectangular plate made of functionally graded material.Elastic modulus of FG rectangular plate is assumed to vary according to exponential function, but the value of poisson coefficient is constant. In the present work, the value of initial modulus of elasticity of FGM was set to 200 GPa and the value of the Poisson′s ratio was set to 0.3.FG rectangular plate becomes a homogeneous isotropic material when the coefficient of graded in modulus of elasticity B=0.In this research ,a finite element (FE)model was built in ANSYS Rel.12.1 by means of the Parametric Design Language (APDL).In this study, von Mises stress in FGM case and homogeneous case are investigated. Von Mises stress in FG rectangular plate is reduced compared with the homogeneous isotropic case. This means that s rectangular plate made of FGM is better than the homogeneous isotropic plate .
