Effect of Amphoteric Zn2+ on the Determination of B2O3 Content in Glass

Article Preview

Abstract:

The amphoteric ZnO can affect the titration of B2O3 content in glass since the Zn2+ will react with standard NaOH solution during the acid-base titration process and the result will be slightly higher sequentially. In this paper, the elimination of amphoteric Zn2+ was carried out by means of carbonate and Zn (OH)2 precipitation method. Results show that the optimal pH value for Zn (OH)2 precipitation is between 9~10. Verification test under borosilicate glass standard substance indicates that this method shows great applicability and accuracy in the determination of B2O3 content in Zn containing glass.
