Synergistic Effects of Al and Cr Addition on Microstructure of Mg2Ni Hydrogen Storage Alloy

Article Preview

Abstract:

The Mg-based hydrogen storage alloys of Mg2Ni (A2B), Mg1.7Al0.3Ni, Mg2Ni0.8Cr0.2 and Mg1.8Al0.2Ni0.8Cr0.2 were successfully prepared by mechanical alloying and sintering. The effect of the substitution side A by Al and side B by Cr on microstructure of Mg2Ni alloy has been studied by XRD and SEM. The results indicated that the synergistic effect occurred when the elements Al and Cr coexist in Mg2Ni alloy, element Cr could inhibit the formation of non-hydrogen-adsorption phase of Al3Ni2, in addition, it will promote the formation of hydrogen-adsorption phase of Mg3AlNi2; the existence of Al could inhibit the formation of non-hydrogen-adsorption phase of -[ Cr, Ni].
