Study of the bearing capacity of single gravelly pile Xiao-Bin Hana,Dong-Xia Yuanb,Chun-sheng Baoc School of Civil Engineering Hebei University of Engineering, Handan, Hebei Province, 056038, China aHanxiaobin_76@126.com,byuandongxiachina@sina.com,cbaochunsheng@163.com Key words: gravelly pile; bearing capacity; gravity of pile and soil; formula Abstract:There is no a united formula about how to calculate the bearing capacity of a single gravelly pile yet.
Recent years, the engineers had developed several theory or experience formulas through many experiments and much studying.
Introduction Gravel piles have wide applications in various engineering projects.
According to the ultimate balance of piles, the ultimate bearing capacity of the piles can be expressed as: (3) Where is the passive earth pressure factor of the pile ; is the ultimate bearing capacity of the piles; is the angle between the sliding surface and the horizon surface which can be obtained from Eqn.(4): (4) If ,Eqn. (4) can be simplified as: (5) The pile-soil deadweight is not taken into account in above calculations, however, lots of engineering practice has shown that the pile-soil deadweight has significant effect on the bearing capacity of the single pile.
Comparison of the results between different methods The relevant parameters related to this engineering case and gravel piles are taken as the following: kN/m3 kPa kN/m3 The calculated results for different methods are shown on Table 2.

Control of Artificial Recharge on Foundation Pit Deformation due to Dewatering Hua Yuan1, a, Yan Hong2, b 1School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Henan University, Kaifeng, Henan, 475004, China 2Henan Engineering Consulting Center, Zhengzhou, Henan, 450000, China ayuanhuazzl@163.com, bhongyan1036@126.com Keywords: Artificial recharge, Foundation pit, Deformation control, Protection, Dewatering, Prevention measure, Management measure.
Introduction With the large-scale construction of urban infrastructure, engineering dewatering has been widely used in foundation excavation; meanwhile the engineering accidents caused by dewatering such as foundation pit collapse, surrounding building cracks, underground pipeline rupture are increasing.
As to the specific options, we should combine the project cost, schedule and safety, then choose the best option according to the characteristics of the engineering
Some are in order to increase the groundwater resources and others are used to improve water quality; however, artificial recharge in engineering is mainly to stabilize and raise local regional groundwater level, preventing the continued decline of regional water level[4-5].
