The experimental work was carried out by dispersing MCC in water with the help of a non-ionic surfactant (Pluronic F-127) using ultrasonication energy.
The developed cementitious composites were cured inside water for two different hydration periods, 28 and 56 days.
Natural fibers are a good alternative to synthetic and metallic fibre based reinforcements for engineers, researchers and professionals all over the world because of their superior properties such as high specific strength, low weight, low cost, fairly good mechanical properties, eco-friendly and bio-degradable characteristics as well as local availability of these fibers [4].
Ordinary Portland Cement (CEM I 42.5 R) from Secil-Portugal, standard sand and distilled water were used in a proportion of 0.5:1:3 (water: cement: sand).
