For the difficulties of machining small hole on difficult-to-cut materials, a study of hole-making technology by pulsed electrolyte jet machining is carried out.
As these components are all made from difficult-to-cut materials, conventional mechanical drilling techniques have become deficient to meet the new requirements.
Electro-stream drilling in ECM, however, doesn’t produce the residual stresses and cracks on the workpiece material, and no damage to the material structure.
Its characteristics are similar with electro-stream drilling, so it can be assumed that the material removal mechanisms of electrolyte jet machining and electro-stream drilling are basically the same: both are the outcomes of combined processing through special electrolysis, strong chemical corrosion, and other removal materials, under a condition of high-voltage (high potential gradient), high current density and high temperature of the injection point (a peculiar phenomenon is the glow discharge on the jet point) [10].
