In rock mechanics, several methods to define brittle rock materials were as follows.
First, the rock materials damaged when it reached or exceeded lightly the yield strength.
Thirdly, the materials fractured with little or no plastic flow.
It was hard to describe exactly the brittle failure process of rock materials.
The brittleness is not only deformation characteristics but also materials characteristics.

Fabrication of Ceramic Tool Materials.
A SEM observation on the fractured surfaces of the new tool materials has shown that each carbide grain has been uniformly coated with a layer of alumina and/or silicon dioxide, and the new materials have a more homogeneous microstructure than those fabricated using Journal Title and Volume Number (to be inserted by the publisher) 25 the conventional method.
