There may be two reasons. (1) Arrangement is random due to the accumulation of granular particles of bulky rock material and contact between the particles cannot be determined. (2) Bulk materials is a kind of non-tacky geotechnical materials with larger particle size.

In the previous experimental investigations, different gaseous coolant [1-4], liquid alcohol and water [5-10]was used as transpiration cooling media, and different porous materials, such as C/C, porous ceramic (91% Al2O3 and 9%SiO2) and metal net structure, were used as transpiration cooling matrixes.
These investigations concluded that the cooling effect of gaseous coolant is limited, but liquid coolant has a large potential to achieve a higher cooling capacity per unit mass due to its large latent heat released by liquid phase change, sintered metal materials have significant advantages in controllable permeability and better machining property.
