Laser Shock Processing as an Advanced Technique for the Surface and Mechanical Resistance Properties Modification of Bioabsorbable Magnesium Alloys
J.L.
Biodegradable/absorbable materials have emerged especially in the fields of bone fixation devices and tissue engineering scaffolds, Mg alloys being one of the most common biodegradable materials that are studied extensively because of its low density and modulus of elasticity close to bone with high fracture toughness when compared to the conventional hydroxyapatite material.
The presented results are considered to be a significant contribution to an important practical problem in the biomedical frame, as they involve the introduction of fully systematic engineered mechanical improvements on biomedical replacement implants (in this particular case the strengthening of Mg based implants with limited resistant life) that can open the way for a fundamental transformation of the range of possibilities associated to this class of chirurgical techniques.

Introduction With the advantages of low density, high specific strength and specific stiffness, electromagnetic shielding and easy recycling, magnesium alloys have become the important engineering structure materials [1-3].
However, there is a gap between the production of magnesium sheet and the international advanced research, because the production of magnesium sheet has a more developed dendritic cells network, tissue uneven, coarse grains and worse mechanical properties [17-19].
