For erosion protection of new Taitung Bridge, this study evaluates different cases according to site conditions in front of pier 2 on the main deep trough in downstream with width 65m×length 15m, EL.24.5m of the apron set as case A, width 65m×length 15m, EL.25&24m of the stepped apron set as case B, width 120m×length 15m, EL.25&24m of the stepped apron set as case C, etc.
According to the above simulation, the erosion formulas by Ettema et al. (1998) [9], which Professor Cheng Lin[5] promoted, applied to calculate their local scour depths and compare the improvement of apron set, as shown in Fig. 6.
