This volume of the journal contains papers which were presented at the International Conference on Green Trends in Mechanical Engineering Sciences (ICGTMES) that was held on October 3-5, 2018, Karnataka, India.
The focus of the conference was to open a new paradigm to deliberate on eco-friendly and robust design, use of materials with less environmental impact, use of fewer materials, optimal utilization of resources during manufacturing processes.
We hope that the presented papers will be interesting and useful for many specialists in the field of mechanical engineering and materials science.

Abstract:Multi-scale science is the challenge and opportunity of science in the 21th century, and turbulence of liquid and fracture of solid will be the classical problems of multi-scale mechanics.
Bazant and Chen [2] pointed out that the theorist of material mechanics seldom considered the scaling of structural failure and size effect of materials.
So, to resolve the puzzle, we have to turn to multi-scale science. 2 Material Scale Division Now we discuss the division of hierarchy and scale of material structure.
In recent years, because of its optimistic prospects, micro-machinery is becoming the hot research topics in the fields of biology, medicine, optics, mechanics, materials science, aeronautics and astronautics, mechanical engineering and electronics [4].
Two Important Scientific Problems in Engineering Structures——Distributed Damages and Scale Effect [J].Journal of South China University of Technology (Natural Science), 2002,30(11):11~14 [8]Bazant ZP ,Xiang Y.
