From the data in Table 1, it was apparent that the refractive index of silicone resin increased with increasing phenyl content.

The glasses doped or co-doped with rare-earth ions have generated much interest due to the possibility of several promising applications such as fiber amplifier, visible laser, optical data storage, sensors and optical communication devices [5, 6].
Our results are in good agreement with previous report in which the addition of rare-earth to the oxide glass shows a reduction in optical band gaps as well as Urbach energies with the densification of the glass network [15].

According to the model of strain-induced movement of the grain boundaries [5], the driving forces for static recrystallisation may be estimated from the reduction in stored energy per unit of volume crossed by a recrystallisation front, considering that the process which intervenes is a reduction in the density of dislocations.
