The carbon content was determined by counting the number of carbon atoms in small slices perpendicular to the axis of the selected volume ( where nc is the number of ions of carbon, and nt is the total number of ions collected).
The size of the slices is a compromise between maximizing the number of ion atoms and the spatial resolution.
Error bars represent the statistical scatter in the composition profiles due to the number of ions in each slice of the selected volume of analysis.
However, due to the fact that nanocrystalline materials contain a large volume fraction of nanograin boundaries, the thermodynamic properties, particularly the Gibbs free energy, cannot be accurately described by conventional thermodynamic models in which the fundamental functions were derived neglecting internal boundaries, which certainly applies for coarse-grained polycrystalline alloys [8].

The seed layer number (SLN) of ZnO exerts moderate influence on the photo-to-electricity conversion and an optimum SLN was observed for this study.
However, this construction may lower electron transport through the particulate TiO2 film because a large grain boundary occur and then increase the recombination probability between the injected electrons and oxidized ions in the electrolyte [5, 6].
Fig. 6 exhibits the photocurrent-voltage (I-V) curves of the DSSCs based on photoanodes with various ZnO seed layer number (SLN) and Table 1 summarizes the photovoltaic parameters.
The ZnO seed layer number (SLN) affects significantly the photovoltaic efficiency.

The use of a larger number of design variables allows to obtain optimized geometries with higher average shear strain.
In this way, the number of variables (control points) is reduced.
The use of different number of design variables will allow understanding the influence of the cubic splines interpolation in the obtained results; and (v) three optimization process using different initial parameters values are carried out for each number of design variables.
These results show that a larger number of design variables allows to obtain an optimal geometry with higher average shear strain.
In addition, when a larger number of cubic splines is used, the higher is the average shear strain achieved.

In order to satisfy statistical analyses, a large number of specimens were tested.
Effects of martensite-аustenite constituent (MA) and effective grain size on fracture toughness in the transition region was analyzed from the standpoint of cleavage crack initiation and propagation fracture toughness analysis in transition temperature region of API X70 pipeline steels. [1] Lower fracture toughness assessment in the transition temperature area, wherein fracture by cleaving is assumed, requires a known value of fracture stress, as well as the location of crack initiation [2].
