The factors responsible for friction from bracket and archwire interface include: the size and shape of the wire, bracket type, bracket and wire materials, angulation of the wire relative to the bracket, type of ligation, environment (wet or dry), and surface coating.
Previous studies had investigated Methane (CH4) and Tetrafluoromethane (CF4) Plasma-Based Ion Implantation (PBII) to modify the surfaces of materials such as metals, plastics and ceramics.
Materials and Methods Preparation of Surface Modified NiTi Archwires. 0.016 × 0.022-inch NiTi orthodontic archwires from Smartmat Innovation Co., Ltd. were deposited with DLC films and were implanted with CH4 and CF4 using Plasma-Based Ion Implantation and Deposition (PBIID) method (Fig. 1).
