In this work in order to elucidate the nature of the PL the EPR study of the CRD which can play the role of the non-radiative recombination center in SiO2:C and the electronic structure of the carbon formed on the SiO2 surface was undertaken in initial and annealed SiO2:C.
Local inter-atomic bonding structure of the materials was analyzed by Furrier-Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) transmission spectroscopy (Nicolet 6700).
Taking into account that the term fullerenes now is also used for graphite-like structure acquired curvature due to the presence of pentagonal rings [9], we can suggest that the annealing at 500°C gave rise to the formation of the sp2 graphite-like structure arrangement on the SiO2 surface acquired curvature due to the presence of pentagonal aromatic rings.
The obtained g-values of the paramagnetic system with localized unpaired electrons allow us to determine the electronic structure of the carbon deposited on the SiO2 surface.
