Preface In the engineering fields of exploration and the use of substrate thermal application, high temperature nuclear waste treatment, underground coal mines and gas explosion, underground rock engineering, post-disaster reconstruction, etc., there are inevitably concerns being raised about the high temperature effects on the stability of rock formation confinement.
However, the complexities of the underground conditions of the confined rock formation stress condition and having been affected by the original rock stress, geo-technical structures, rock vector characteristics and uneven nature, jointed crevice development, the geometrical shapes and the types of supports of the formation confinement, the above mentioned method cannot satisfy the actual condition of the engineering works.
The ultrasonic method, with the convenience and ease in its application, its non-destructive nature does bring forth the attention of the engineering/technology sector.
