Introduction Hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is commonly used in biomaterials engineering and regenerative medicine as it has the same crystal structure and comparable composition to biological apatite.
Therefore, implants containing HA ceramics on titanium substrate are designed to have favourable biological properties [3].

In order to manufacture the optical components with complex surfaces or microstructures efficiently and accurately, a set of ultraprecision FTS system is developed which is driven by piezoelectric ceramic (PZT) in this paper, and the cutting characteristics and tool interference are studied in the machining process.
