The advantage of this method is that an empirical formula can be created for calculating the specific flank friction output, too, which can be used without measuring forces in materials of that hardness in a wider range.

Introduction To meet rapid developments of contemporary technology, brittle materials machining technique has also been keeping pace in the world.
High efficiency mirror surface machining of brittle materials such as glass has become more important as these materials have become used more widely in optical and electronic devices [1].

Room temperature creep has been observed in many metallic materials such as low carbon steels, high strength steels and stainless steels [1-4].
Elber's theory of crack closure [9] was widely applied to explain retardation after overload in many materials.

Such combination of techniques capable to simultaneously probe the micro-structural and thermodynamic properties of materials can be useful for studies of materials having a complex phase behavior or prone to form metastable states.
Thus, the modification of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to address such minuscule amounts of materials has completely changed the practical implementation of this conventional technique of thermal analysis.
However, to our knowledge, there were no reports on the in-situ combination of nanocalorimetry and micro- or nano-focus X-ray scattering addressing organic materials.
Materials and methods Nanobeam X-ray scattering experiments in transmission were carried out using the nanobeam facility at the ID13 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) (Grenoble, France).

Introduction Adhesion can be defined as the molecular combination occurring on the material interface when two the same or different kinds of materials make contact.
Asphalt and mineral aggregates are two different kinds of materials.
Test materials and method Test materials.
Fig. 1 shows the surface tension test results of the four kinds of asphalt materials.
