In spite of its name, the frequency range usually covered by the method is well above the human ears limit although lower frequency analyses have been carried out on large civil structures [1].
In statics, even if AE measurements have become a reliable method of non-destructive examination for pressure vessels [4] and engineering consultancy companies are offering their services in this field, the academic community still presents reports highlighting some difficulties in the interpretation of AE data on actual structures [1,3].
