Abstract: According to the size and connecting characters of soil particles, soil is discomposed into two components as matrix and reinforcement particles respectively with a demarcation size fixed at 0.075mm to investigate the influence of the microstructures on soil strength.
At microscale, the objective is to study physical mechanisms and action mechanisms; at macroscale, the objective is to study engineering properties and applications; while mesoscale is the bridge to relate microscale to macroscale and is the key to establish multi-scale models[18].
