Shape memory polymers are a class of smart polymeric materials which are able to “memorize” a permanent shape and that can be manipulated in a way that a certain temporary shape will be “fixed” under appropriate conditions.
Experimental and Methods Materials. 4,4’-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI, Aladdin, 99wt% purity), 1,6-Hexanediol (HDO, Aladdin, 99wt% purity) and 2,2-Dimethylol Propionic Acid (DMPA, 99wt% purity) were commercially available.
The thermal stability of the liquid crystalline polyurethane is affected by the raw materials used, and the proportions of the hard and soft segments, the density and type of crosslinking bonds, and the chain extender and synthesis method [11].
