To this aim, the availability of fast and reliable numerical prediction tools is mandatory for multidisciplinary optimization applications during the pre-design stage, when many engineering choices have to be validated.
Within the limits of an engineering level of approximation, it provides unsteady aerodynamic loads on a translating airfoil undergoing plunge, , and pitch, , motion in terms of nondimensional normal force CN, chord force CC and pitching moment coefficient CM about the sectional aerodynamic centre.
Further developments of the present work will be focused on the application of widely used engineering models to extend to massively separated flow (high wind speed) conditions the accurate prediction of wind turbine performance.
