The susceptibility of masonry to weathering, thermal expansion, thermal contraction, and fatigue are common issues engineers must face in order to ensure the longevity of mason work.
Consequently, the growing desire to provide lasting structures has caused a drive in research to provide new engineering materials which increase the out-of-plane flexural strength of masonry.
