A reduction in the absorption associated with phenyl ring C-C stretch (1465 cm-1, 1601 cm-1) after electron bombardment suggests that ether breakage is accompanied by rupture of the phenyl rings in the monomer, possibly leading to the formation of a new pi-bonded carbon structure containing the new carbonyl.
This increase in conductivity is accompanied by an increased probability of electrons to be released from transport sites.12 This increase in the release probability is a manifestation of lower average energetic depth of trap states (transport states) in the material as may be deduced from band gap change evident in the UV/Vis absorption spectra.18 Further, the spectroscopic data presented above, coupled with the EPR analysis is evidence of new chemical structures being formed which can solvate an electron.
