From these figures, it was observed that the existence of Al peak after plasma treatment is due to the cathode material, where the argon ions accelerated toward the cathode liberate Al atoms by sputtering from its surface and therefore deposit on the metal substrate surface.
The change of contact angles for the irradiated and non irradiated metals is due to the Al atoms filling the space on the metal‘s surface.
