Ya-Mei Zhang(CHN) Preface In the past decade, a number of large-scale infrastructures have been constructed in China using concrete as a main structural material, including the Qing-Zang (Tibet) railway on highland, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge of 36 km length, the 2008 Beijing Olympic National Stadium, the Three-Gorge Dam across the Yangtze River, and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway etc.
Not only in China, significant advances in research on concrete science and technology, and its environmental impact, have also been achieved in other countries or areas.
The main aim of this symposium was relationship between concrete technology and ecological environment, covering a wide range of topics and scopes, such as preparation of high strength/high performance concrete, durability, raw materials, workability, chemical admixtures, new applications of concrete, property characterization, environmental impact of concrete production, and behavior of concrete structures.
The book is also an issue of the international journal, Key Engineering Materials.
