Experimental Investigation during Finishing of Al/SiC-MMC's by Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) Process
Online since: June 2011
Authors: Harlal Singh Mali, Alakesh Manna
Al/SiCp-MMC’s find their use in engineering and structural components but their machining particularly finishing is a challenge for manufacturing engineers due to their heterogonous nature having abrasive particles randomly distributed and oriented in the matrix material.
Despite very superior mechanical properties the wide spread engineering application is resisted due to its poor machining characteristics particularly excessive tool wear and poor surface finish.
Materials from soft aluminum to tough nickel alloys, ceramics and carbides can be successfully micro machined by this process [9]. 2.
