These defects will reduce the residual properties of the materials.
The main focus of the materials scientists is fabricating such materials which have fewer defects with extended mechanical properties.
Unlike metallic materials, with flexural bending (within limits) the stiffness of polymeric composite increases with applied load.

That is to say, the relaxation of residual stress is concerned with the applied load and the materials propriety.
In shot peening processing, the stress induced phase transformation usually takes place for certain materials, and residual stresses in different phases must be evaluated with an X-ray diffraction technique.

Introduction Glasses doped with rare-earth ions (REn+) are proving to be luminescence materials as they have high emission efficiencies.
Appropriate amounts of the raw materials, B2O3, ZnO, Bi2O3, and Ho2O3 of 99.9 % purity, were thoroughly mixed and ground in porcelain crucibles and were later melted in an electrical muffle furnace for 3 h, at 1200 oC.
After complete melting the raw materials, the melts were cast into a preheated stainless steel mould and immediately transferred to an annealing furnace at 500 oC for 3 h in order to eliminate internal mechanical stress.
