Abstract: The mullite whiskers were synthesized from commercial raw materials by sintering in air.
The powders, including raw materials and sintering assistant, were mixed and homogenized by ball milling in ethanol for 6h.

The bulk density and wear resistance of the Y2O3-added materials are improved largely than that of Y2O3-free materials.
Hence, it is evident that adding Y2O3 to alumina ceramic is a useful method to enhance the sinterability of materials.
