Introduction The expansion of application of advanced composite structures beyond aerospace into other applications such as marine, transport and civil engineering requires us to develop the capability to manufacture cost effective components using alternative blanket materials.
Selection of SMC By comparing the properties of the material (GF fabric/Epoxy prepreg) used in the hand lay-up process, three high-fiber-content (60 to 63 wf%) SMCs manufactured by Quantum Composites, Inc., were selected as candidate materials.
Three kinds of SMC materials, Lytex 4129, QC 8800 and QC 8560 with different thickness were used.
