Many lead-free solders have been studied as replacements for Sn37Pb solders, and among them Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu, Sn-0.7Cu, Sn-9Zn and 64Sn-35Bi-1Ag solders are the most promising candidates owing to their overall properties, including mechanical properties, wettability, reflow properties and reliability [2], etc.
However, the properties of these lead-free alloys in corrosive environments has not been widely reported, though it is of importance in many automotive, aerospace, maritime and defence applications.
