Methods such as electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) and laser Doppler velocimetry
(LDV) are frequently applied to transient and steady state vibration analysis respectively in areas
such as structural health monitoring of engineering components.
A small circular piezo-ceramic element was glued on the peripheral edge on the rear face of the plate and used to excite the vibration.
The systems capacity for rapid full-field imaging of transient structural vibrations also offers a practical means to expedite detection of sub-surface defects in a range of composite-based aerospace engineering structures.
