In order to grind these materials easily discontinuous grinding wheel is development, which its multi-porous grooves are formed during wheel manufacturing.
It is desirable to use the wheel grinding the materials in high accuracy and high efficiency, which is impossible by using general wheel.
Grinding these materials with general wheel now available is difficult due to their mechanical properties such as low hardness and high toughness, which result in wheel loading and grinding burning.
For this reason final precision machining for this kind of materials mainly depends on precision cutting, its machining result is difficult to reach demand of higher machining accuracy and better surface roughness.
In creep feed grinding, discontinuous wheel assembled by CBN sticks [3] has been used to grind fine ceramic etc. difficult-to-machine materials in high efficiency and high accuracy.

Wear resistance of a material is commonly represented by its hardness (Rockwell hardness HRC), especially hot hardness.
As mentioned earlier, hot work die steels (such as H13) have two contradictory material property requirements.
At elevated operating temperatures, toughness of the die material is appreciably higher than the room-temperature value.
