It is worth noting that without a good understanding of the complicated
failure mechanisms and adaptive features of lightweight smart materials and structures [11, 12], it is
impossible to carry out objectives oriented materials design to fulfill the requirements of high
stiffness, high strength and multi-functions for lightweight smart materials and structures employed
to make flight vehicles.
In this paper, the design and analysis of light-weight truss-core actuator with lattice interlayer structures and smart components involve interfacing of material science, mechanics, mechanical & electrical engineering, and computational mathematics, which leads to coordinated optimization of materials, intelligent parts and structures.
