Unfortunately, the two legs are not coaxial within the borehole, and a number of different materials involved make the task of finding a suitable analytical model difficult or even impossible.
The effect of backfill materials on the transient effectiveness coefficient of the GHE is shown in Fig. 3 as a function of thermal conductivity kb , which is set to 8.7 W/m·˚C,3.8 W/m·˚C,2.1 W/m·˚C and 1.1 W/m·˚C respectively while the backfill volumetric specific heat is assumed to be constant.
The higher thermal conductivity not only increases the heat transfer capacity of the GHE but also increases the thermal shorting-circuiting in the meanwhile, which conduces to the reduction of the effectiveness coefficient difference for the four kinds of backfill materials.
Certainly, the higher thermal conductivity of the backfill materials affirmatively makes a contribution to the heat transfer between the working fluid and the soil over time.

But the eco-design is mainly restricted to the strategy study such as the material selecting rule for reducing environmental impacts, while the energy saving goal is lacking [3].
The shape of seal is associated with the process energy consumption, the size and material of seal is associated with the raw material extraction and preprocessing energy consumption.
