Preface The 5th International Conference on Surface Engineering (ICSE 2007) was held at Dalian University of Technology in Dalian, a beautiful coastal Chinese city, from July 7 to 10, 2007.
The theme of ICSE 2007 is "Innovation and Development of Surface Engineering toward A Conservation-minded Society", timely reflecting the obligation of advanced technologies to energy & resource saving and environment protection for the world.
This conference is a grand gathering of the surface engineering community, which provided an active forum for specialists, scholars and engineers coming from the forefront of scientific research, teaching and industries worldwide to exchange their new ideas and discuss the latest developments in the commonly interested fields.
I believe that surface engineering must play a more and more important role in energy-saving, materials-saving and environment-protection in the coming years, to realize 4R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Remanufacture) and contribute to world economy development.
Sincerely, Bin-shi Xu Chairman of ICSE 2007 Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Director of National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing Bejing, 100072, China December 8, 2007

Springback Behavior of Advanced High Strength Steel(AHSS) CP800 Mei Zhang1, a, Jun Zhang1, Yuxiang Ning1, Tao Wang2,b, and Zi Wan2,c 1School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shanghai University, Shanghai 200072, China 2Technical Center, Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing Co.
Introduction In recent years, considerable attention has been given to the development of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) for the automotive industry to meet the combined requirements of weight reduction and passenger safety[1].
Comparison of mechanical properties of longitudinal test direction specimens of 800 MPa grade advanced high strength steels(AHSS) with HSLA steels S700MC are shown in Table 2.

Remote Advanced Supervision and Diagnostics of Robotized Welding Cell Zbigniew Pilat1,a, Jacek Zieliński1,b, Marcin Słowikowski1,c 1Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP, Al.
Welding equipment and other components included in the robotized or automated welding station are now usually equipped with advanced control.
It allows operators and engineers to have a chance to monitor the status of the equipment itself, as well as the process.
Advanced Web services allow e.g. implementation of the system user's access to information and advice about the product, forums, databases of common problems, training, etc.
By using this solution service engineer can access all the parameters offered by the software (in this case functionality offered by Fronius Xplorer – free software supported by welding machines producer Fronius).
